The STRN thematic group on Equity and Justice in Transitions (Ju-ST) is convening a global workshop series to better understand diverse conceptualizations of justice and how these can be embedded in sustainability transitions thought and practice.
The aspirations for this series are:
- To enable dialogue and create space for mutual learning.
- To bring diverse actors closer to one another.
- To connect fragmented justice conversations.
- To learn from the diversity of justice practices.
- To gain a deeper understanding of European and other than European theoretical and practical perspectives on just sustainability transformations.
The outputs for the workshop series will be:
- A webinar series on results of the different workshops.
- A journal paper bringing together insights from the workshops.
To this end, we invite applications for convenors of workshops on each continent (Africa, Asia, Americas, Europe, Oceania). It is envisaged that at least one workshop will take place on each continent between July and September 2026. The budget will be approximately 800 EUR per workshop. Convenors are invited to:
- Co-develop the workshop agenda and data-capturing methods with Ju-ST coordinators. Those who are selected meet online to co-develop the methods for the workshop and capture information from the workshop. Methods can be adapted to meet local needs but need to follow the co-created outline to allow for comparability across workshops.
- Organize at least one workshop, whereas each workshop needs to include academics and practitioners / citizens / stakeholders including minorities (e.g. indigenous people), and / or vulnerable and hard-to-reach groups (e.g. special needs, precarious financial situation, migrants, etc.). A minimum of 15 participants are expected per workshop.
- Document the workshops according to the methods co-created, to allow analysing of results. Other outputs and artefacts (posters, photos, drawings, etc.) need to be digitised and shared with the research team (these will only be shared outside the research team after data has been anonymised).
- Share results of the workshops with the Ju-ST coordinators.
- Present about the workshop(s) you organized in the online seminar series.
- If desired, co-produce a journal article (together with Ju-ST coordinators).
- Assure that results are shared with workshop participants in a meaningful and accessible way. Convenors are encouraged to produce non-academic outputs that they believe to be meaningful.
