Arrival in Zurich

Zurich is conveniently located in ‘the center’ of Europe and well connected by trains from many European cities. Zurich’s main station is only about 20 minutes from the conference venue, either on foot or by public transport.

There are numerous day train connections, e.g., from Paris (direct train 4:38h), London (9h), Utrecht (8h), Hamburg (direct train 9:37h), Berlin (direct train 8:32h), Vienna (8-9h), Milano (direct train 3:22h), Rome (about 7h). In addition, several cities are connected to Zurich by direct night trains, including Amsterdam, Berlin, Hamburg, Graz, Vienna, and others.

To help keep emissions as low as possible, we kindly encourage you to avoid air travel whenever feasible and instead travel by train or long-distance bus.

Travel options:

Train: You can find connections to Zürich at sbb.ch. This website and app, are also very helpful to navigating public transport within Zurich. All conference participants will be provided with a free public transport card (details below).

Long-distance bus: European long-distance bus options can be found here: BlaBlaCar, FlixBus: Affordable Global Bus Travel, etc.

Plane: If you travel by plane, Zurich airport is the closest (about 40 min by public transit to the conference venue). However, flights to Zurich are often more expensive compared to nearby airports such as Basel or Geneva.

Getting to to the conference venue

The conference will be organised at the ETA building of ETH Zürich (Gloriastrasse 37, 8006 Zürich).
The closest tram stop is Voltastrasse, accessible by tramline 6 (Direction Zoo) from Zürich HB (main train station).

Alternatively, you can take tramline 10 (Direction Bahnofplatz/HB) from the airport to ETH/Universitätsspital, and from there take tramline 6 to Voltastrasse.

Accessibility: Please note that all venues of the conference and the dinner venue are accessible for wheelchair users. 

Public transport in Zürich

All conference participants will be provided with a transport card applicable within zones 110 (City of Zürich) and 121 (zone with the airport). The transport card will be active on dates 31st August, 1st and 2nd September.

Please note that if you wish to use public transport outside of these dates and zones, you can purchase tickets via the SBB app or website (for trams, trains, buses, boats and 24-hr passes).

Accommodation

You can book hotels through our official housing partner, KUONI. Details of the hotels are available via the link below. Participants are responsible for making the bookings.
