Short Bio

Dr Mike Hodson is Research Fellow at SURF University of Salford UK. He holds degrees in social and political studies from Sheffield (1996) communications policy from City University London (1997) and a doctorate from Salford (2004). Mike’s research interests focus on city-regional transitions to low-carbon economies the ways in which this may or may not happen and understandings of the lessons to be learned from such processes Through a series of publications presentations and funded projects with colleagues at SURF we have prioritised understanding of the role of cities and regions in socio-technical transitions. We have undertaken theoretical conceptual methodological and empirical work that examines the governance of sub-national socio-technical transitions in response to the challenges posed in managing relationships between economic activity resource constraint and climate change. In particular we have sought to understand why how by whom and with what consequences historically different and differentially positioned spatial contexts are re-shaped. This has entailed case study work in London Manchester New York San Francisco Tokyo Shanghai Melbourne and other cities.
