IST’25 presents

EDITS Awards & Special Sessions: Demand-Side Solutions for Tensions in Transition

IST’25 is proud to partner with the global research project EDITS (Energy Demand changes Induced by Technological and Social innovations) to launch a new award of nearly €3,000 per paper for four outstanding papers to be presented in a Special Session on demand-side solutions for sustainability transitions.

We invite submissions that explore how energy demand-side strategies can help address the tensions and conflicts shaping structural change in sustainability transitions. Despite their transformative potential—such as easing pressure on supply systems and infrastructures, and enhancing social acceptability—demand-side solutions remain underexplored in the literature. This initiative aims to strengthen collaboration between the transitions and modelling communities, promoting interdisciplinary approaches that advance both climate mitigation and human wellbeing.

Eligibility:

Open to both members of the EDITS network and external researchers. Submissions must align with the IST’25 theme, apply a demand-side perspective, and incorporate sociotechnical, institutional, political, economic, geography, or other social science approaches commonly used in transitions research. We especially welcome transdisciplinary contributions that can produce innovative works with the potential to inform future IPCC reports.

Awards (4 Total):

  • €2,500 cash prize
  • Free IST’25 registration (~€500)
  • Presentation in the Special Session on Demand-Side Solutions for Tensions in Transitions
  • Paper should be ready for journal submission in June, 2025

Key Dates:

  • Abstract Submission: March 24 – April 18, 2025
  • Notification of Selection: April 30, 2025
